Usually supplied with the needles and pumps you use for inflating footballs/basketballs etc...but what the alligator-clip adaptor does...eluded me..obviously pump hose-end will screw on to or grip on to male Schrader stub...ok..now what?

Never seen one, but I assume your needle slides into that slot so that it is pressed up against the seal? Seems klunky though.

yep, tried it, clunky is right , iffy seating air-seal even when sping-tension pressing it when used like that, as you are flexing/shaking whole structure around as you pump on pump..

have a vast collection of never can be found when need one inflation adaptors but never seen one like that...my guess would be it's for inflating balloons? The opening of the balloon goes over the nozzle and the balloon "neck" is held in place by the clip

I'd never seen these until this post. But have just walked out of the local Vinnies where they have a Dutch "Jumbo" pump with one fitted. Nearly bought it for the $10 asking price, but another pump (and one that is completely surplus and for decoration only) is something I don't truly need right now. At least I know how it works now.

I had never seen one of these either until I succumbed to the purchase of a budget track pump at the local Mitre 10 last year. (Which included this strange thing as an accessory)

I’m not sure that I need to know what it does and how to use it. Maybe a project for a rainy day.

Anyway the “Mitre 10 track pump” is I think more designed to pump up car and wheelbarrow tyres.
As a track pump, it has a few deficiencies.
It won’t generate more than about 60 PSI and the tube is annoyingly short.
But these days some would say that for most applications you don’t need to exceed 60 PSI.

Perhaps I should have just coughed up for a decent fair dinkum bicycle brand track pump.
But I have purchased a few of these in the past and they don’t seem to last very long.
Maybe it’s just bad luck but maybe it’s also because I did sometimes use them to pump up car tyres
